Manual
Steps for Exploring a Dataset
The user can select the desired dataset through the Datasets menu or he/she can upload his own (see the
Instructions for more information). By default the system loads the Marine-TLO warehouse dataset.
The user can select any of the available layout algorithms through the Layout menu. The available algorithms are:
- Mountain Side (Resembles a mountain side - Appropriate for same sized sets of datasets)
- Ortogonal Spiral (Resembles a mountain with the summit in the center - Appropriate for same sized sets of datasets)
- Cyclic Spiral (Concentric layout - Appropriate for sets of datasets whose sizes variate a lot)
- Similarity-based (Force-directed layout - Uses datasets features, i.e. datasets with common URIs are placed closely)
The default layout algorithm is the Cyclic Spiral.
The user can set the type of buildings through the Buildings menu. The available buildings are:
- Cubes
- Cuboid min footprint
- Cuboid max footprint
- Cuboid feature-based
The default building is set to Cubes.
The user can navigate and explore the world using his mouse. We use orbit-like controls that allow:
- Camera Rotation - Mouse Left-Button
- Camera Zoom-in/out - Scroll-Button
- Camera Panning - Mouse Right-Button or Arrow Keys of keyboard
When the mouse is pointing a dataset, the user can get additional information for this specific dataset. Specifically he/she can see the:
- Connections and metadata - Mouse Left-Click
The user can set a number of other parameters through the Settings menu. Specifically he/she can:
- Show/Hide - Connections and Labels
- Set the Size - For Labels, Buildings Footprints and Buildings Distances
- Enable Stereoscopic View - Classic anaglyphic stereo
- Wireframe Rendering - To see-through buildings
- Connections type - Connections can be either roads or bridges
- Browsers - All major browsers should support WebGL. Our implementation has been successfully tested using firefox 40+, chrome 44+,
safari 8 and Edge 13 browsers. Notice that IE 11 does not work. Since WebGL support is still being actively developed, newer browsers
should offer better performance and compliance.
- Graphic Drivers - The user should have installed the latest drivers for his graphics chipset. In case of a blacklisted driver, most browsers offer an option for white listing the driver.
